Scholarship Information
As a merit based scholarship, awards are
determined completely by academic excellence. Students who are nominated
must have a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 and must come from universities that
have qualified for the Besal Fund. The Board or appointed Board
Committee reviews all applications from all qualified schools at the
same time each spring. Each candidate must demonstrate outstanding
academic performance and strong potential for careers in lighting.
In order to be considered for a
scholarship, students must apply through the Besal Fund liaison
at their participating school, as no awards are given directly to
students. The application process typically includes the creation of a
detailed essay where variety and creativity are encouraged. The Board
will review all applications and make the final selections for awards.
The Besal Fund is administered and
invested by the IESNA as a part of its Lighting Research and Education
activities and is made possible by contributions from Acuity Brands
Lighting, its agents and employees.
Universities must qualify in order to
nominate students. The Fund invites all accredited
institutions to apply for qualification. Additionally,
each university will need to appoint a faculty
representative to serve as their Campus Liaison between
their institution and the Fund’s liaison (Patricia
Hornor). |
